Boat connection to Viikinsaari Island
Viikinsaari Island is a summer paradise for the whole family just 25 minutes away by boat.
In 2010, the island is open from May 28 to August 15 Tue-Thu 10am-10.30pm, Fri-Sat 10am-00.30pm and Sun 12am-7.30pm. In July also on Mondays 10am-10.30pm.
Visitors can enjoy the restaurant, nature path, lakeside sauna, beach, playgrounds, sports fields and barbecue areas. For spiritual peace and calm, there is a tiny ecumenical chapel on the island.
Boat connection by Finnish Silverline from Laukontori Quay on the hour, and back from the island at half past the hour.
Ticket rates: adults 10 euros, pensioners and students 8 euros, children (4-17 yrs) 5 euros, family ticket (2 adults and 2 children 4-17 yrs) 25 euros.
Departures from Tampere's Laukontori Quay at 9.30am, arriving in Hämeenlinna at 5.45pm. Departures from Hämeenlinna at 11.30am, arriving in Tampere at 7.50pm.
There are numerous stops along the way, among others, an hour-long stop at Visavuori, where you can visit the museum home and atelier of sculptor Emil Wikström.
Departures from Tampere's Mustalahti Quay on Wed and Fri at 10.15am (as well as on Mondays in July), arriving in Virrat at 6.30pm. Departures from Virrat on Thu and Sat at 10.15am, as well as Tuesdays in July, (Ruovesi at 13.45pm), arriving in Tampere at 6.30pm.
Same-day return by bus also available.
The boat has a fully licensed restaurant.
