Environmental Art

Tree Mountain

Tree Mountain is a work of environmental art by Agnes Denes (1995) in Ylöjärvi, west of Tampere. 10,600 pine tree saplings are planted on a cone-shaped gravel hill according to a mathematical formula.

Driving instructions: to the north from Tampere along main road number 3 past Ylöjärvi centre (19 km), sign "Pinsiö 4 km". Along the Pinsiö road for 1 km, turn right at the foot of the hill and drive along the forest road all the way to the opening. The Tree Mountain can be seen in the middle of the gravel pit.

Up and Under

A work of earth art by Nancy Holt (1996) in Pinsiö: sand, concrete, earth, grass and water form the work of art in the gravel pit.

Driving instructions: to the north from Tampere along main road number 3 (19 km), sign "Pinsiö 4 km". If driving from Nokia, along Pinsiöntie to the Pinsiö village shop crossing, take a left turn and continue for 100 metres.
